Social Event "Sing Like Fish" author presentation

  • 20 Jun 2024
  • 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • VCKC Clubhouse

We are very pleased to announce a talk by author Ami Kingdon who will be speaking about her book "Sing Like Fish: How Sound Rules Life Underwater".

We humans have often ducked our heads underwater in the ocean, or a lake, or the pool; or even in the tub to rinse shampoo, and noticed that underwater, sound doesn’t seem to work. But that’s because human ears aren’t evolved to work underwater. All sorts of animals use sound underwater - sure, whales and dolphins, but also fish, corals, squid, and many, many others.

Come out and hear about the world of sound underwater, and listen to some samples of sounds you might hear in the ocean or the Gorge – with the right equipment.

Amorina Kingdon is a science writer in Victoria, British Columbia. She is the author of the forthcoming book “Sing Like Fish: How Sound Rules Life Underwater.”
