Herring and Nature in the City

  • 06 Feb 2024
  • 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • VCKC Clubhouse

We are very excited to celebrate the return of the VCKC monthly general meetings!

Tonight we have two wonderful speakers who are very passionate about the wildlife around us here in Victoria, and a last-minute addition is long time club member Ken Gibbard who will be showing some slides of past club trips along with stories to accompany them.

Jim Shortreed is a Victoria-based herring enhancement volunteer and has some pretty amazing details regarding herring, and whether or not we might find them in the Gorge.

Jacques Sirois is Chair of the Victoria Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary and will have some wonderful stories of the past 100 years since the sanctuary was established.

Part two of this set of talks will be a canoe tour around the Gorge on Sunday Feb 11 (time TBD) with Jim and Jacques, looking for potential herring sites.

New members are welcome to come early, starting at 6:30, if they'd like a tour of the clubhouse to get a sense of where to find the canoes/kayaks/paddles/SUPs/PFDs/safety equipment, or even just where to find things in the kitchen to have a coffee/tea/snack after paddling!
