Course registration is now closed and course material has been ordered.

Get your Marine Restricted Operator's Certificate.  Be legal and safe on the ocean while you paddle.  The certificate is required to legally use a marine radio.   The course teaches you the proper calling procedure for emergencies, hazards and boat to boat communications.  Learn all about the uses of marine radios, choice of frequencies, operation, phonetic alphabet, procedural words and phrases, as well as Digital Selective Calling and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, (DSC/GMDSS).  You will receive documentation about two weeks ahead of the course to read though and practice.  The Wednesday night will be a 4 hour presentation of the materiel, followed by testing the next evening.  The certificate is currently for life so there is no reason not to be legal while paddling on the ocean.  The course will be presented by Gord Fulcher in conjunction with the Brentwood Bay power squadron.  Course cost is $110.   If you have two people in your household who want to take the course the cost will be $60 for the second person, you just will only get one book and cd to share.   Don't register the second person, but email me at canoe@vckc.ca instead.
