With one Dungeness crab running $25, learning how to catch is an economical and very tasty skill to have. This clinic is in 3 parts: a classroom session, and on-water canoe/kayak trip, and finally a crab boil.

The Father’s Day weekend in BC allows residents to go fishing/crabbing without obtaining a license, providing you with an opportunity to try out the sport at no cost. Some crab traps and related equipment will be available to borrow, allowing you to try your luck without investing in gear.

Classroom -  Wednesday  7 till 9 PM at the clubhouse covers:

  • Why crab?
  • All about crabs
  • Federal regulations
  • Fishing methods
  • Traps & Baits
  • Other gear
  • Paddling considerations
  • Cooking methods
  • Trip planning
  • Potluck (sides) organization

On Water Crabbing  -  Saturday 9 AM to noon

  • on a local body of water
  • location TBD based on participants, tides weather and crabbing areas
  • Non-crabbing participants are welcome to paddle with the group on Saturday.

We’ll go out as a group and set our traps, followed by a short distance paddle while waiting.

Crab Boil - Saturday 1 PM to 2:30 PM at the clubhouse.

  • We’ll gather to clean cook and enjoy the day’s harvest
  • Potluck for sides to go with the meal

Prerequisites:

  • All paddlers must have passed at least an entry-level paddling course.
  • All paddlers must be club members to participate.
  • All boats must be outfitted to both Transport Canada regulations and club rules.

Other Admin Items:
