    Please join us for our VCKC General Meeting, open to the all members.  The public is also welcome!  

    First Tuesday each month.  July & August are BBQ social meet&greet evenings.  January does not have a general meeting because the Annual General Meeting takes place each January.

    Switchblade racing consists of 6 different paddling sports and is an exciting combination of race legs that will challenge any 6-paddler team to bring their best efforts both as individuals and working together.

    Entry fee $180 per team /  Minimum of 3 women per team.   *Late registration may be available if space permits; late fee of $240 per team

    Course (6 Legs):

    Recreational Ocean Kayak (1 paddler) – Mass start on the water at the VCKC dock, the course will be in the Gorge Waterway and may involve buoy turns.

    Stand up Paddleboard (1) – Mass start at the VCKC dock (either in the water or on shore) the course will involve several buoy turns and will be in the Gorge Waterway.

    Marathon Canoe Tandem (2) – Mass start on the water at the VCKC dock the course will be in the Gorge Waterway, expect buoy turns, finishing at VCKC.

    OC1 (1) – Mass start at Portage Park beach, loop through Esquimalt Harbour to far end of Esquimalt Lagoon (Coberg) Spit.**

    Surf ski (1) – mass start at Esquimalt Lagoon Spit to harbour mouth and into Ocean River Canoe Club.**

    OC6 (all 6 paddlers) – Staggered start from Ocean River Paddling Club into the Inner and Outer Harbours, on to V21, counter clockwise turn around V21, then on to Brotchie Reach, counter clockwise around Brotchie, back to V21, clockwise turn around V21 and follow same course into Inner Harbour finishing at ORPC.

    All paddlers must have signed waiver on file to participate.  Download waiver here:  VCKC Group Waiver_SwithBlade2016.pdf    Please print, complete and obtain signatures.  Email completed waivers to: switchbladeregistrar@vckc.ca  or bring completed waiver form to 8:00am meeting on the day of the event.

    BBQ dinner with awards. The dinner is free for racers but additional tickets can be purchased for team boosters or anyone else who would like to attend the dinner.  Dinner tickets are $10 and available online during team registration.

    Note:
    Minimum of 5 teams registered by May 8th to hold the event. 

    Each team is responsible to supply their own boats and equipment. However, when registrations opens, contact information for VCKC race organizers will be published for race teams hoping to arrange the loan of boats. We will endeavor to put people in-touch with clubs that may have OC6s or other boats available.

    Racing starts at 10:00am Saturday, race managers on-site at 9:00am.

    Two different race types:

    • 2500-meters in two heats:  10-paddler boats:
      In the morning each team will race a 1250 meter course with a buoy turn (out and back). 
      In the afternoon, each team will race the same course in a different dragon boat.
      The two times for each team will be combined to see who gets the glory and medals.
    • Sprints:
      200-meter races in IDBF-certified 10-paddler boats.

    Teams may register in the following categories: 
          - Mixed
           - Womens


    Minimum of 3 teams required to run category.

    No registrations accepted after July 14, 2017.

    Cost: $230 per 10-paddler team (12 people including caller & stern) for EITHER the 2500m or the 200m sprint.

    Early Bird $200 - if payment received prior to May 15th

    Only $50 to register for the 2nd race type, if registering for both.  

    Results will be ranked by team category (Mixed or Womens) for awarding of medals.

    Fall clean-up day involves sprucing up the grounds and outdoor spaces of the clubhouse and doing a thorough cleaning of the interior including meeting rooms, kitchen and storage areas.
